Christmas 7 – The visit of the Magi – Jesus come for everyone

In this series we’re meditating upon the most important events related to Jesus’s Nativity.
If it’s your first time here, go to the introduction series, where we show how to get the most of theses prayers.

Today we’re gonna think about Visit of the Magi, the wise men. The coming of the wise men to visit the baby Jesus shows us that everyone can discover Him and worship Him as the Son of God and Savior of the world. Me, you and everyone as we are, are called to live closer to our Good Lord and we will not ignore it anymore. Since He is here, with you now, let’s just be with Him.

This visit is also a confirmation for Mary and Joseph, not that they needed it, but can you imagine their point of view? This baby God is miraculously born, then local people receive messages from angels glorifying the Lord and spreading the news. Now, these men come from the east following a star that made them know that the king of Israel is born.  It looks like God wants the whole world to know about it and that everyone is aware. However, one of the most important events in the  history is quiet and hidden.

The way God has been manifesting himself to you is probably the same, hidden, silent, mysterious, yet very effective that has been changing our lives.

God manifested Himself to the Magi, in a way they should understand. Since they studied the stars, through the stars, He showed them the coming of the Messiah, the king of the Jews. Not even their people. But knowing the importance of this event, and having understood the message so clear the Magi traveled for days to worship and adore that King.

Mt 2:2

“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Mt 2:2

“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

The Magi are getting closer

They arrived in Jerusalem and they needed to ask about the new born baby, but nobody knew. And the star seemed to be hidden at that moment.
To know about the king of the Jews, they started asking the king Herod, who gathered the Israelites leaders, the chief priests and the scribes.
They were told it should be in Bethlehem, but again, where exactly?
The wise men knew it was important to find this baby.
Fortunately, the star was there again to show them the way to Jesus. And when they saw it they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

Matthew 2: 1-6

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.” When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: ‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.’”

Matthew 2: 9-11

After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Finally, they arrive where the star showed them: The house where Jesus was at that moment.
If they were overjoyed seeing the star pointing the right way again, can you imagine the excitement finding Jesus?
They entered the house, offered their gifts acknowledging Jesus’s kingship, divinity, and humanity.

This baby will free you from the chain of the evil, will pay for your sins, and will show you how to live, opening the gates of heaven for you.
Make a commitment not to hurt him anymore with sins. More than that, decide to give extra love to the others, never returning evil even if you are hurt so that people can know Jesus through your life.

That way Jesus will be less hurt and much more adored.
